How to play the Hashtag Game

Hashtags have become so well-recognized today that it’s rare to find anyone who doesn’t know what they are. However, knowing something doesn’t mean you can use them well.

Follow these rules to optimize your hashtag game!

You #SHOULD Do This:

  • Keep it short and sweet: Hashtags are supposed to make things easier to find and engage with. Therefore, not many will use a long hashtag since they don’t want to waste time typing in or reading that many characters. Not to mention the almighty 140-character limit.
  • Be specific: The more specific you can get with your hashtag, the more targeted your audience will be. And the more targeted audience you have, the more engagement you have.
  • Come up with your own hashtag: This doesn’t mean you have to mention your brand name (it will be best if you can, though), but your hashtag should represent the brand. Brand hashtags are a great way to raise awareness and engagement. Check out this great hashtag- #BlayzerLife

You #SHOULDNOT Do This:

  • If you want to catch the eye of internet shopper, user-generated content is one of the best ways. According to a survey on user-generated photos, 77% of shoppers reported that they’d rather see customer photos than modelling photos when making a purchasing decision.
  • Therefore, encourage your users to create content for you. Ask them to share pictures showing off the products, then repost their pictures on your Instagram. Remember to ask for their permission first.
  • Posting user-generated content can portray a relatable brand image filled with real consumers. With this approach, your audience sees how your products look in real life, with real people. And get inspired to buy from you if the pictures intrigue them enough.

Now that you know what to do, remember to use hashtags to make your content more searchable, and to add a fresh element to your social media marketing. Not using a hashtag is fine, but don’t leave every single post you have hashtag-less.
