Twitter Wrap-Up for June 9 2017

Another week, another Twitter wrap-up!

I don’t know about you, but I don’t care too much for ads when I’m on a website — that’s why I have an ad blocker. Luckily, I’m not the only one who feels this way. This week at our Twitter meeting Brandon found a Tweet linked to an article about the ads internet users hate most and rolling in at number one are modal advertisements and coming in at close second are autoplay videos. I personally hate autoplay ads over modal ads, it’s annoying when you have your headphones on, listening to music, you’re surfing the web, and then a sponsored autoplay video pops up. Honestly, I’m more likely to leave the site if there are bothersome pop-up modals or autoplay ads.

Following Brandon’s Twitter find, Josh found an equally fitting tweet. Facebook wants to start watching its users through their phone and laptop’s camera to target even more ads at them by “spying on your mood in order to sell you tailored content or advertisements” (ibtimes.co.uk). If you’re down in the dumps, and scrolling through Facebook, they’ll see that and target emotion based ads at you — creepy but potentially useful for a marketer. While this may sound invasive, it does give marketers another weapon to add to their arsenal for ways to effectively target their message to their audience.

On a celebratory note, Julie broke 2000 Twitter followers, way to go Julie! If any of you are looking to up your Twitter following head on over to her Twitter, and check out her followers. Become one!

That’s all I’ve got for you this week, hope I didn’t creep you out too much with Facebook’s new patent. If you have any ideas of less intrusive ways for Facebook to advertise to us, tweet me.

Have a good weekend and see you next week!
