What is LAMP?

Life After Microsoft Payments :)
LAMP stands for Linux (Operating System), Apache (Server), MySQL (Database), PHP (Development Language).
We use LAMP versus Microsoft-based solutions for many reasons but the paramount factor is to provide the best forward-thinking and reliable solutions. We also want to deliver these solutions at a tremendous cost savings. Let’s face it; in the current online environment, the average website lasts 2 – 3 years if it’s successful. If it’s really successful it lasts half that time. Why spend tens of thousands of dollars every time you change your solutions?

Three Misconceptions of LAMP.
If I use Windows and MS Office at work, using a LAMP solution for portals, websites and online applications will be more difficult.
Nothing could be further from the truth. It is true that Microsoft does create certain products that are geared toward interfacing with other Microsoft products. However, LAMP product can do all those things at a fraction of the cost.
My Microsoft developer told me that once we build our site in .NET, we’ll never have to build it again. We just simply add a new design to the old site and we’re done.
True. Also true with LAMP solutions. Caveat: The Internet (and how we use it) changes so rapidly that by the time most companies change their sites; they are also changing how it works. This means redevelopment. So they never get to take advantage of this feature anyway.
We are a Fortune 100 company and we can certainly afford our .NET product license fee. We need the stability of Microsoft for our company’s processes.
Suppose you have 4000 employees at 15 locations. Chances are you’ll be spending roughly $82,000 on licenses and platform fees before you even have a developer build on it. Why pass on a better, less-expensive solution? In fact, for that amount of money you could have had the entire solution built and launched and kept more in the budget for other activities. We can help you do more with less.
Why Open Source?
“Open source is a development method for software that harnesses the power of distributed peer review and transparency of process. The promise of open source is better quality, higher reliability, more flexibility, lower cost, and an end to predatory vendor lock-in.” ~ OpenSource.org
