Measuring Social Media Success

Social media is such and effective way for marketers to reach their target audience. But how do you track the progress and success of social media campaigns? How do you quantify social media reach? Here are a few metrics to keep an eye out for.

Reach measures the spread of a social media conversation.

There are 3 different kinds of reach to keep in mind:

01.

Potential Reach

the total potential audience. This means all fans and followers PLUS their fans and followers. Potential reach helps you determine the number of people you have the opportunity to reach.

02.

Reliable Reach

the people you can reach directly: all of your fans and followers. This is a much smaller metric than potential reach, but it’s a much better indication of who exactly your message will be delivered to. This can be edited to go to only certain people or to all your friends/followers.

03.

Actual Reach

the percentage of reliable reaches who actually receive your message. Again, most likely a smaller metric than the previous, but extremely important. This number can let you know if your message is reaching the intended audience and if it’s effective.

Using these three forms of reach can help you gauge who you want to continue to target and if they are receiving your message. From there, you should take other, more engaging statistics like clicks, retweets, likes, etc. and divide those numbers by your reach. This gives you the percentage of your audience that is responding to your message.

These are just a few of the many ways to measure social media success, and much like the medium itself and its trends, these metrics are constantly changing. Blayzer has no problem handling the ever-changing social media marketing world, and we’d be more than happy to help your business out.
