Creating a Twitter account, or any social media platform is an exciting thing-- it’s a new beginning.
Whatever the reason is for starting your Twitter account, we all have a common goal: followers. There is a sense of pride that comes with having a lot of followers, it makes you feel important, and the content you’re creating or sharing is also important. Plus, who doesn’t enjoy the bragging rights that come with having a hefty Twitter or social media following? Having a strong follower count doesn’t just happen overnight, you have to work for it. The more quality content you put out the more followers you’ll gain. A nice perk to have a quality Twitter following is that your content will be reached by more people.
So, how do you build quality twitter followers?
Quality Content
For starters, and the most obvious–post quality content. That doesn’t mean talking about yourself, no one cares about you. Good content can be personal and gives your followers an idea of who you are, just don’t get too personal, that’s what a blog is for. Segment your Twitter, if you’re into music tweet about it, tag bands, and give shout-outs, it’s a great way to position yourself in an industry. If you’re a blogger, Twitter is a great place to share your blog posts. Quality content comes in all shapes and sizes.
Interaction
That ‘@’ symbol is there for a reason–use it, but don’t abuse it. Using the ‘@’ symbol is a great way to engage with others and get your name out there. Engage with your existing followers, make them feel like they are important because they might recommend you to their followers. As the old saying goes, “make new friends, but keep the others”.
Have an Identity
Have a good and engaging bio! It’s the first thing potential followers will see, so it’s important that you stick out and separate yourself from other accounts.
Use #Hashtags
Hashtags are a great way for your tweets to get out there, and if you use one of Twitter’s trending hashtags, there is a chance it will be reached by many. Hashtags make it easy for people to find topics and accounts to follow. You can always create your own hashtag and see if it gets trending!
Links n' Logos
To make your Twitter account more powerful, add the logos of your other social media accounts to your Twitter. Add a link to your company’s website, and if you happen to have a portfolio showcasing your work, link it to your Twitter. Potential clients can see what you’re up to, and it builds your social media presence.
Staying current and active on any social media platform, especially Twitter, is one of the most important things you can do for your follower count. Quality followers come from quality content.
